Petrolimex fast-tracks E10 fuel rollout from May 2026

The Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex/PLX) has issued a new announcement regarding the sale of E10 biofuel gasoline. Accordingly, Petrolimex's network of petrol stations began offering E10 gasoline in late April. As of May 15, E10 had been rolled out to approximately 80% of its retail outlets, and the Group expects to complete the transition to E10 gasoline sales across its entire network by May 20.

Amid ongoing volatility in the global energy market, the Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex), the country's largest fuel distributor by market share, has demonstrated its leadership role by proactively implementing a range of coordinated measures at an early stage.
Based on practical experience from more than eight months of E10 gasoline sales in Ho Chi Minh City, the market has not recorded any incidents or consumer complaints related to fuel quality.
During the E10 pilot period, sales volume increased by approximately 40% compared with the initial stage, indicating a growing positive response from consumers. More recently, E10 sales volumes have reached 3,000-4,000 cubic meters per day.
Immediately after the Prime Minister issued Directive No 09/CT-TTg on March 19, 2026, which set a target to roll out E10 gasoline nationwide within April 2026 in order to reduce conventional gasoline consumption by around 10%, Petrolimex, as the country's largest fuel wholesaler and distributor, swiftly deployed a comprehensive set of measures. These included securing ethanol supply sources, investing in and upgrading storage infrastructure, enhancing blending technology with seven E10 blending facilities nationwide, standardising technical procedures, and preparing operations across its network of more than 2,800 petrol stations.

Sharing details on its plan to secure ethanol and gasoline feedstocks for E10 biofuel production, a Petrolimex representative said the corporation had incorporated these preparations into its business plan as early as the end of 2025.
For ethanol, Petrolimex secured nearly 40,000 cubic meters of supply by April 2026 and delivered it to ports and blending facilities in advance to ensure readiness for E10 gasoline production. For the remainder of 2026, the Group will continue to proactively source ethanol to fully meet blending demand. Regarding conventional gasoline, Petrolimex has signed long-term supply contracts with both domestic and imported sources, covering more than 80% of its requirements.
As part of its strategy to offer high-quality fuel products, Petrolimex currently markets not only E10 RON 95 gasoline meeting Euro 3 emission standards, but also E10 RON 95 gasoline meeting Euro 5 emission standards. Looking ahead, the Group plans to study the introduction of more premium products, such as E10 RON 97 gasoline compliant with Euro 5 standards.
The rollout of E10 gasoline is also closely linked to Petrolimex's broader digital transformation and green transition strategy. Considered by experts to be a key component in achieving national energy security and emissions reduction goals, E10 gasoline can be successfully integrated into everyday use through close coordination between the government and businesses.
In this process, Petrolimex has played a leading role, from conducting pilot programmes and preparing infrastructure to developing a comprehensive nationwide implementation roadmap. Through the proactive and pioneering efforts of key enterprises such as Petrolimex, Vietnam can strengthen its energy self-sufficiency, reduce emissions, promote sustainable development, and fulfill its energy transition commitments.
